The Build Grid tool is a free tool found in the Extended Geoprocessing plugin for Simple GIS Client. This tool allows the user to create a gridded shapefile based upon the coordinate system of your choice. This document will describe the steps needed to use the Build Grid tool in Simple GIS:
- First, if you haven't done so already, make sure you've updated to at least version 10.2.2 of Simple GIS Client. Next download the Extended Geoprocessing plugin and install. Once you have installed the plugin, you should see the "Build Grid" menu option under the "Extended GeoProcessing Plugin menu in your map data view document of any Simple GIS Client project as shown.
- When you select this menu option, the Shapefile Grid Builder dialog box shown will appear.
- Select the map projection for you grid from the "Grid Projection" list box. Also, enter the x and y coordinates for the top left corner of your grid as well as the horizontal (x) and vertical (y) interval spacing for your grid lines as well as the number of horizontal (X) and vertical (y) intervals. Also, enter a new shapefile name for the shapefile you are wanting to create and click the "Apply" button. Simple GIS will create the shapefile and add to your current view. If you want to change the symbol for the grid lines or the label font or label setting, just modify the shapefile proeprties as you would any shapefile in your map.
